Yesterday we made a little road trip to Bendigo, with a thermos of coffee and some sandwiches for an early lunch stop on the way.
This was my first trip to Bendigo. It’s a really lovely town, surrounded by hills with beautiful old buildings. It turns out we had slightly mistimed our trip because the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show starts tomorrow, maybe next year…
On our itinerary, of course, was a trip to the Bendigo Woollen Mills so we stopped at the tourist office for a map and directions. I’d seen posts on Ravelry about needing to take a taxi but it turned out to be a just a short walk following the tram line down the main street, past the tram museum and there it is. I’d only seen Bendigo yarn in the colour cards previously so it was fun seeing all the skeins lined up on shelves, but I eventually decided on a pack of Heirloom Naturals undyed Grey Cheviot wool from the bargain room, enough for a vest.
We also had a successful visit to a secondhand book shop and some unsuccessful visits to op shops before stopping for a second lunch of sandwiches and coffee at the sourdough bakery.
