Time to get the spring kitchen garden going

After moving the vegetable beds last autumn, we put down newspaper and cardboard to keep the weeds under control, and now I think we’re ready to start thinking about spring planting. But first we have to build the dog proof fence…

Kuma is enjoying the sunshine while Willy is on patrol. These little guys sure do love their vegetables. Last summer we lost nearly everything, broccoli, cabbages, tomatoes… all gone. I thought we had some kind of massive insect infestation until I caught Kuma eating a head of broccoli straight off the plant. The plan is for a wooden lattice fence around at least some of the vegetable beds to keep out marauding doggies.

While Kuma is enjoying the spring sunshine, I’ve also been working on a quick chunky seed stitch scarf for Japan. It’s Patons Inca in a manly olive green.
