Tawashi たわし

I’ve just bought a pattern on Ravelry for a crafting/knitting project for this year…

Tawashi たわし are Japanese scrubbing cloths. The word means a bundle, I guess originally they were made from bundles of twine, but these are knitted in a long strip and then wrapped into a bundle. Challenging but fun.

The pattern says it’s a good way to use up any left over acrylic yarn you might have lying around. Acrylic yarn tawashi are supposed to be good for scrubbing dishes, but if you want something for your face or body make it from cotton. Think I’ll look around for some nice cotton yarn.
