Vest in progress

A few weeks back I started knitting the vest.

I’d almost finished the back when I realised that I wasn’t going to have enough of the Avocado green Felted Tweed to finish.  Memo to self… Do not buy wool on eBay because it’s a “bargain” and then find you don’t actually have enough to make anything with it.  What to do?

So I unravelled what I’d done and tried to find another project. That’s when I rediscovered this stripey men’s vest “Alvin” from Jane Ellison’s Queensland Collection book 9, which is full of great men’s knitwear designs. There are two main colour stripes of 6 rows each with a single row contrasting stripe in a third colour.

I had plenty of the Avocado for the main colour. In my stash I had another “bargain” buy, a couple more skeins of Rowan Felted Tweed in a discontinued colour called “Dragon” — a lovely greeny grey — for the second colour. Some dark green “Pine” left over from my striped beanie would be perfect for the contrast rows.

Trying to take a photo of the vest, but Willy thought I should take a photo of him

I think the colours work really nicely together.  The Avocado Felted Tweed by Rowan is really nice though, so I might be tempted to buy some more after this project — maybe enough to make a whole jumper.
